#Chart editor

Make charts for your own music. Open Chart Editor from the home menu.

#1. Import a song

  • Use the file picker, or drop an audio file (MP3, OGG, WAV or FLAC) onto the editor.
  • Title and artist are read from the file's tags when present. You can edit both, and a song needs both before it can be saved.
  • Add a PNG or JPEG banner if you like.
  • Or pick one of the base songs as a starting point: this makes a new custom copy and never changes the original.

#2. Set the tempo

  • Detect BPM estimates the tempo and offset.
  • Or use tap tempo: it averages your last eight taps. Pause for 2.5 seconds to start over.
  • Fine-tune BPM and offset (ms) by hand. They define the editor's snap grid.

#3. Place notes

  • The vertical timeline scrolls with the mouse wheel. Click the waveform to seek, or use the scrubber.
  • Click a lane, or press D F J K, to add or remove a tap at the cursor.
  • Drag in a lane to create a hold.
  • Each difficulty (Easy, Normal, Hard, Expert) is its own chart.

#4. Or record notes

Press Record, then play along: the arrow keys, D F J K, your configured lane keys, and your controller or dance pad all add taps snapped to the grid. Stop with Record or Pause. If the window loses focus, audio and recording pause.

#5. Edit

Action Shortcut
Select a time range Shift + drag
Move the selection drag a selected note
Select all A
Copy / paste C / V (pastes at the snapped cursor)
Delete selection Delete
Undo Ctrl/Cmd + Z
Redo Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + Z, or Ctrl/Cmd + Y
Save S
Mirror selection Mirror button (swaps left/right and down/up)

Each difficulty keeps its own undo history of 50 edits.

#6. Preview

The preview uses the game's 3D highway at 0.5×, 0.75× or 1× speed with hit clicks. There's no judging or scoring in the editor. Hide the preview for more timeline room.

The editor shows a level and NPS (notes per second) for each chart. These are density estimates, not a difficulty rating.

#7. Save and play

Saved songs appear under My Songs in the song list. Custom songs:

  • are always unranked
  • don't appear in the Daily Challenge
  • don't count toward "every built-in pack"

If you leave the editor with unsaved changes, it asks once: Save, Leave without saving or Cancel. Unsaved work is kept as a draft and offered back (Restore / Discard draft) the next time you open the editor. Saving keeps one previous version as a recovery copy.

#8. Export and share

Export writes a self-contained folder (song metadata, all four charts, the audio and the banner) and shows you where it is. Zip that folder to share it. Export doesn't publish anything anywhere.
